House Bio: I'm Alex and I live with my husband and two black half Burmese cats
How long have you lived here and what type of property is it?
We have lived here over three years and it’s one of three apartments (we are on two floors) built to look like a Georgian house with very high ceilings
Did you fall in love with your home instantly? What was the one feature that sealed the deal for you?
I literally drove up outside and knew immediately that I wanted it. It was the look of the pretty building and the high ceilings. As we were downsizing it can be hard to find somewhere that you fall in love with and I did!!
Had you mentally redecorated before moving in or did your scheme come together over a period of time?
Yes defo and as it was a new build it was a blank canvas so that was exciting
Where do you seek your inspiration?
From Interiors Magazines (being a kitchen and interiors PR I get them all), Insta, shops etc
What was the first job in your home you tackled?
I employed a carpenter to make bespoke wardrobes and shelving in the dressing room come office and to repaint the kitchen wall cupboards with a decorative paint finish as they were ugly and also organised shutters for the super high windows
Were there any surprises during the revamp/renovation?
I wanted a particular super high mirror for the front room and once I had lived in the apartment for a while I realised that it would be too big.
What do you think has been the most successful area of your interior?
Probably my bedroom and also the living room
Are there any failures in your design/DIY that you care to admit to?
Which is your favourite room?
Again between the bedroom and living room and actually I love the gallery walls on the staircase too.
Do you have a favourite object in your home?
My two very gothic bespoke mirrors that are unique to us and made especially for us by a friend.
Any golden nuggets of advice to share to anyone undertaking their own revamp/renovation, did you learn any lessons?
Live in your home for a little while before making any big decisions as it’s so different once you have lived in there for a few weeks. You change your mind quite a lot.
Do you have anywhere in your home that doesn’t make it onto Instagram?
Yes my piles of clothes In my bedroom and under stairs cupboards of doom
What’s the next project you have planned?
More dark walls. Never enough and I had many more in my last house
Thank you Alex for sharing your home with us. I love how Alex styles her home with so many layers and textures, with interesting objects and artwork everywhere you look. I could sit for hours and just soak in all these details.
We will be back next week with more home stories
Bye for now
